Links to (potentially) useful standards
There are lots of "standards" out there, some are more real and/or useful and/or effective than others but they all facilitate the discussion.
Links to some standards groups and documents:
- IEEE 1588 Standard for A Precision Clock Synchronization Protocol for Networked Measurement and Control Systems. Sponsored by the IEEE Technical Committee on Sensor Technology TC-9.
- IEEE 1451 family of Smart Transducer Interface Standards.
- ANSI/IEEE-997 Serial ASCII Interface Loop (SAIL). You will need access to the IEEE Xplore library to get to this document.
- NMEA 0183 Interface Standard defines electrical signal requirements, data transmission protocol and time, and specific sentence formats for a 4800-baud serial data bus. Each bus may have only one talker but many listeners. You can buy the standard for $270 from NMEA. There is a lot of unofficial NMEA descriptions on the web including one by Peter Bennett
