My computer

by Dale Chayes last modified 2008-07-16 05:26 PM

June 2008

The magic smoke (mostly) came out of my 15" MBP on a Thursday night while I was in Seattle for a series of meetings.

Since I was headed to sea (by way of northern Europe in less than a week, I figured I didn't have much time to mess around so on Friday afternoon when I was finished with my meetings I swung by the Apple Store up by the U District and bought a high end 13" Macbook. I was enticed by the slightly smaller size as I have been trying to lighten up the bag I drag around all the time.

so far, I've been very happy it and in spite of (eventually) recovering nearly everything from backups and a couple of stabs at the failing disk in the old roach, I've still (2008-07-16) still got a fair amount of disk space.

Late April 2006 -> 15" MacBookPro

il 2006, I switchedMy (more or less) only regular computer is a Mac 15" G4 Powerbook (although I am currently 2006-04-16) thinking very hard about switching to a MacBook Pro (duo) so that I can run Parallel's virtualization code and have a WinXP native when I need it for specific apps such as system controllers and cross compliers.

Hardware until about late April 2006

1.2 GHz G4 with 1.25 GB of memory and a 100 MB 7200 rpm disk drive

Thinking hard about switching to a Mac dual core pro so that I can run Parallel's virtualization code and have a WinXP and Linux OSs running natively.
